Introduction:
Diacare Centre for Diabetes and Endocrinology is a unique state of art comprehensive centre for diabetes care which is operational from May 2006 in Kannur, northern district of Kerala, India, Inaugurated by Prof.Dr.CK Ramachnadran.
• Introduced for the first time in the area, a structured and all-encompassing diabetes detection and care programme. (A team-based approach and care to patients with diabetes).
• Apart from Diabetologists, we have facilities for Opthalmology, Cardiology, Nephrology, podiatry services and surgical consultations for Diabetic complications. DIACARE functions 6 days a week and has registered around 5,000 patients in the last 3 years.
• In our short, but eventful, 3-year history, we conducted 25 free diabetes detection and awareness camps in both rural and urban areas.
• All the camps were conducted with non-profit motive collaborating with organizations/public health centers of the localities, thus gaining invaluable experience in community programmes. Also, the camps were mainly manned by the staff of DIACARE in addition to the doctors/volunteers of the local area, thereby developing a capable staff with expertise and social commitment.
• From our existing exposure to Community Programs in the District, we have easy access to Health Workers who could be trained for our Projects as torch bearers and interventionists.
• DIACARE is also a research centre whose data are used for publication in the field of diabetes and wishes to be a centre for phase III clinical trials.
